What are reflex sites?
I have heard of reflex sites, but do not know what they are, would any of you know?
|
Re: What are reflex sites?
usually for shotgun, the sight puts a red dot out in space, the dot looks like it is there, and this is the point of aim. good for clays, birds, rabbit, etc.

Re: What are reflex sites?
a reddot ....holo...etc......are examples of reflex sites.....
its a site that when you come up to shoulder and in alignment you immediately see projected crosshairs or dots etc out in space you can place on target |
Re: What are reflex sites?
Hmmm...I've never messed around with holographic sights and such. I was TOTALLY expecting some sort of response to his question explaining that it was some sort of top secret government doomsday auto-pilot nuclear weapons site or something....LOL!

Re: What are reflex sites?
thanks everyone, I did do a Google search but only came up with places that were selling them, not a real description.
Are the cross hairs with in the sight itself or are they projected on the target like a lazer pointer? |
Re: What are reflex sites?
They are projected onto the lens that you are looking through. They do not "touch" the target.

Re: What are reflex sites?
The distinctive feature of reflex sites is that they perform no magnification. Due to this, they are slightly quicker to place on target.
A side-benefit of being a 1X optical device is that they also have no need for focusing mechanisms, either for the image or the reticule. Most of these are basically just an optical window you look through, that has an illuminated marker reflected onto it. The reticle of a reflex sight works just like the car windshield-speedo that Mantokir posted a picture of, basically. I have seen one made for bowhunting. In that instance, it was just a gentle convex lens with a black crosshair printed directly on it. -------- Some models do offer small amounts of magnification now, 2X or whatever, but most don't. -end- |

Re: What are reflex sites?
bump.
Are reflex sights any good on 22LR rifles? I have an old semiauto with a tubular magazine. There's a cheap crummy scope on it right now. Been thinking about what I can put on it to replace the scope. Would it be fun plinking with a 22 rifle with a reflex sight? |
Re: What are reflex sites?
Here is one (I think) on a tricked out Glock.
Link has many other good pics. Here is the link. http://madtrigger.net/images/gats/Yar-OG009.JPG http://madtrigger.net/images/gats/Yar-OG005.JPG |
Re: What are reflex sites?
Here's a website with pics of the Kobra "collimator sight" (like an Eotech) I have for my AKs:
http://tantal.kalashnikov.guns.ru/kobra1.html The displayed pipper/reticle can be varied from a dot to a crosshairs to other things, and also change in brightness as needed. Very fast target acquisition for up close & personal discussions. |
